DESCRIPTION:This Black History Month, join us for a powerful and timely conversation on the health and wellbeing of children and youth of African descent.\nDr. Mary Ani Amponsah, Visiting Professor at the University of Calgary, will\npresent findings from her research in Ghana, highlighting the lived realities of\nvulnerable African children, including street involved children and those left\nbehind by migration. Dr. Bukola Salami will then situate this global evidence\nwithin the Canadian context, examining the mental health experiences of children\nand youth of African descent in Canada.\nThe session will conclude with an engaging town hall discussion focused on\ncollective action bringing together community members, researchers, and\nstakeholders to chart a path toward building a sustainable and culturally\nresponsive support system for children and youth of African descent in Canada.\nAfrican meal will be provided at the event.\nRSVP by Feb. 1st, 2026\n
